Bay Trials are open research on GenetixBay: members run controlled, side-by-side grows to test claims that the literature has not settled for indoor drug-type cannabis, and the results move those claims up or down the evidence ladder.
In practice
A trial defines its question, protocol and minimum enrolment in advance. A typical design uses matched clones, a split tent or paired rooms, one variable changed (tuck vs strip defoliation, LED vs HPS, hydro vs living soil), dry weight recorded on both sides, lab COAs, and blind taste panels where flavour is the question. Each trial card shows the question, the founder's hunch where there is one (labelled as a hunch), enrolment progress and, once signed off, a verdict of Busted, Confirmed or Inconclusive.
Open questions include whether tucking beats stripping for dry yield, whether defoliation raises cannabinoid content, LED vs HPS, and whether a living-soil run beats a well-grown hydro run in a blind taste test.
Don't confuse with
- Tester grows: report how a line performs; they do not test a growing claim.
- Single grow journals: useful evidence, but uncontrolled.
Open research is GenetixBay's approach of settling growing questions with member-run controlled trials and publishing protocols, data and verdicts for anyone to see.Defoliation is removing fan leaves from a plant to open the canopy to light and air; GenetixBay's house view is to tuck leaves rather than strip them.LED vs HPS is the debate over whether LED or high-pressure sodium lights grow better cannabis; LEDs are clearly more efficient, while final-quality differences remain an open question.Living soil is an organic growing medium managed to sustain an active soil food web, so microbes and invertebrates release nutrients and the soil is reused across cycles. The weight of cannabis after drying (and usually trimming), the basis growers use for yield; it is typically about 20-25% of trimmed wet weight.Yield is the dry weight of usable flower harvested, usually expressed per plant, per square metre of canopy (g/m²) or per watt of light (g/W).A cannabinoid is any compound that binds the body's cannabinoid receptors or shares the typical cannabis terpenophenolic structure; the plant-made ones are phytocannabinoids such as THCA and CBDA.Mythbusters is GenetixBay's page of growing myths and their verdicts, with open Bay Trials and finished results marked Busted, Confirmed or Inconclusive. The GenetixBay evidence ladder labels every growing claim as Established, Supported, Grower practice, Contested or Myth, according to how strong the evidence is.A grow journal is a dated record of a grow, with photos, environment, feeding, problems and results, used to learn, share and prove what happened.A smoke report is a grower's or consumer's write-up of how cured flower looks, smells, tastes, burns and reportedly feels, ideally linked to how it was grown.
