Mythbusters is the GenetixBay knowledge-base section where common growing claims are tested against evidence. It lists open Bay Trials and verdict cards for finished ones, and links to the article that covers each topic in depth. See Mythbusters.
In practice
Each entry states the claim, the current evidence label, the house position where there is one, and what a trial would need to settle it. Examples: pre-harvest flushing (Myth, and actively harmful), 24-72 h of darkness before harvest (Myth; the founder's 20-year standing offer of a 50-pack of seeds for a sound peer-reviewed study showing a benefit is unclaimed), Cal-Mag being needed because of LEDs (Myth), late-flower bananas being normal (Myth), tuck vs strip defoliation (open). When a trial finishes, its card moves from "Open trials" to the verdicts, labelled Busted, Confirmed or Inconclusive.
Don't confuse with
- The evidence ladder: the labelling system Mythbusters uses.
- Opinion pieces: house positions are labelled as such, with their evidence.
Bay Trials are GenetixBay's member-run controlled grow experiments that test growing claims side by side and publish the results openly.Feeding only plain water for days or weeks before harvest to "clean" the plant; GenetixBay rates it a Myth that harms yield, unlike a root-zone salt flush. The practice of keeping plants in total darkness for 24-72 hours before cutting to boost resin; GenetixBay rates it a Myth and runs a standing challenge against it.Cal-Mag is a supplement supplying calcium and magnesium, usually as nitrates; need depends on cultivar, water source (RO vs tap) and medium (coco), not on LED lighting. An LED (light-emitting diode) grow light uses solid-state diodes to produce light; modern fixtures are the most efficient grow lights, at roughly 2.5–3 µmol/J.Nanners (bananas) are exposed, banana-shaped anthers on a female flower: a hermaphrodite trait, not a normal part of late flowering, and a reason to cull.Defoliation is removing fan leaves from a plant to open the canopy to light and air; GenetixBay's house view is to tuck leaves rather than strip them. The GenetixBay evidence ladder labels every growing claim as Established, Supported, Grower practice, Contested or Myth, according to how strong the evidence is.Open research is GenetixBay's approach of settling growing questions with member-run controlled trials and publishing protocols, data and verdicts for anyone to see.
