# Bay Trials

Bay Trials are [open research](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/open-research.md) on GenetixBay: members run controlled, side-by-side grows to test claims that the literature has not settled for indoor drug-type cannabis, and the results move those claims up or down the evidence ladder.

## In practice

A trial defines its question, protocol and minimum enrolment in advance. A typical design uses matched clones, a split tent or paired rooms, one variable changed (tuck vs strip [defoliation](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/defoliation.md), [LED vs HPS](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/led-vs-hps.md), hydro vs [living soil](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/living-soil.md)), [dry weight](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/dry-weight.md) recorded on both sides, lab COAs, and blind taste panels where flavour is the question. Each trial card shows the question, the founder's hunch where there is one (labelled as a hunch), enrolment progress and, once signed off, a verdict of Busted, Confirmed or Inconclusive.

Open questions include whether tucking beats stripping for [dry yield](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/yield.md), whether defoliation raises [cannabinoid](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/cannabinoid.md) content, LED vs HPS, and whether a living-soil run beats a well-grown hydro run in a blind taste test.

## Don't confuse with

- **Tester grows**: report how a line performs; they do not test a growing claim.
- **Single grow journals**: useful evidence, but uncontrolled.
