Zaza (or "za") is slang for flower sold as premium, exotic or top-tier, usually with strong aroma, dense frosty buds and fashionable colours. The word spread through music and social media and now works more as a price signal than a description.
In practice
"Zaza" on a jar or a menu tells you almost nothing about genetics, potency or how it was grown. Judge the actual flower: aroma when broken, a clean white or grey ash and smooth smoke (signs of a good dry and cure rather than of "flushing"), no hay or musty smell, no mould, and a harvest date. Packaging and a trendy name are not evidence.
Don't confuse with
- Top shelf: a dispensary price tier, which zaza often claims.
- Exotic: very close in meaning; exotic is the older retail word.
- Craft: small-batch, carefully grown flower, which may or may not be marketed as zaza.
Myth check
"Zaza is stronger than regular weed." Label potency is often inflated, and premium marketing does not change what flower can produce (Schwabe et al. 2023). See buyer beware: label claims.
