The Stud Book is the male showcase on GenetixBay. Each entry is a documented male plant with its GB-ID, selection journal, the reasons it was kept, its pollen batches, and the sire credits it earns when its offspring become lines or keepers.

In practice

Half of every seed's genetics comes from the father, yet males are routinely culled unseen, and many classic lines are now carried only by female clones. The Stud Book fixes that. A breeder or member who hunts males carefully (vigour, structure, stem rub aroma, resistance and, best of all, the quality of daughters in a test cross) can register the keeper male, and that work earns Wild Pearls and credit. Registered males make it possible to remake lines from known fathers and keep diversity alive beyond a few female gardens.

Don't confuse with

  • Elite cut: usually a female clone-only; the Stud Book is about males.
  • Pollen bank: stored pollen; the Stud Book is the record of the males behind it.

Myth check

"Males are useless; just run fems." GenetixBay position: males are a necessity and are encouraged and rewarded. Selfing is mostly frowned upon. See selection and pheno hunting.
