Regs (regulars) is slang for regular seed: seed made by pollinating a female with pollen from a genuine male plant. Expect roughly a 1:1 ratio of males to females, though any single pack can vary.

In practice

Breeders and preservationists prefer regs because they carry the full genetics of a line, including the males needed to make the next generation. A grower who pops 10 regs and gets 6 females and 4 males has a normal result; the males can be culled, or kept, assessed and used for breeding. Sexing happens at pre-flower, from about 4-6 weeks of veg from seed, or earlier by forcing a clone into flower.

Don't confuse with

  • Fems: feminised seed, made with pollen from a sex-reversed female, almost all female.
  • Autos: day-neutral plants; they can be regular or feminised.
  • Bagseed: unknown, often accidental seed.

Myth check

"Regs are worse than fems." Not on genetics. Regular seed is how cannabis has always reproduced, and males are half of every line. GenetixBay encourages and rewards keeping males (see the Stud Book). Fems save space, not quality. See seed types.
