A drop is a release of new seed, clones or product, usually limited in quantity and announced ahead of time to build demand. "The drop sold out in four minutes" is a typical boast.
In practice
Drops borrow from streetwear marketing: scarcity, countdowns and exclusive names. For buyers, the useful questions are the same as for any seed: what are the parents, how many generations has it been worked, how many tester grows reported, what herm rate, what germination rate on this batch? A limited drop of an untested cross is still an untested cross.
Seed sales and shipping are regulated differently in different places. Check local rules before buying or importing seed.
Don't confuse with
- Restock: bringing back an existing product, possibly from a new seed batch with different parents.
- Release: the neutral term; a drop implies hype and limited stock.
The herm threshold is GenetixBay's two-tier herm standard: a 10-plant screening grow with zero herms to be featured, then about 150 or more community-grown plants before a line can be Verified under 2% herm rate.Germination is the stage where a viable seed absorbs water, splits its shell and pushes out a root (radicle), usually within 1-7 days at 20-30 °C.A seed run is a dedicated grow in which selected parents are crossed to produce a batch of seed, as opposed to growing for flower.A restock is a new batch of a previously sold seed line; it may come from different parent plants than the original batch.A hype strain is a cultivar name in heavy demand because of marketing or social media, regardless of how stable or distinctive the genetics are.In cannabis slang, a seed bank is a vendor that sells seed from one or many breeders; it is not the same as a conservation genebank.A test grow (tester grow) is growing out a sample of a new seed line, often by several independent growers, to measure uniformity, vigour, chemistry and herm rate before release.
