On GenetixBay every parentage statement ("A x B", "the original cut") is treated as a claim with an evidence level. The levels run from L0 to L4.
In practice
Breeders raise a claim's level by attaching dated, original evidence and, ideally, by recording crosses on the platform as they happen. A certified breeder can still make an L2 claim that turns out wrong, so a verified breeder account is shown separately from verified genetics. Witnessed lineage (both parents on record and the pollination logged at the time) is a separate flag, not a substitute for L4.
| Level |
Name |
Typical evidence |
| L0 |
Unverified |
A name or anonymous assertion |
| L1 |
Community reported |
A member's claim with a source, such as a dated forum post or a photo of an old pack |
| L2 |
Breeder reported |
The line's certified breeder asserts it |
| L3 |
Documented |
A period document accepted by an archivist: catalogue, patent, breeders' rights filing, lab certificate (chemotype only) |
| L4 |
Lab-confirmed |
A genomic report consistent with the specific parent-child relationship |
Don't confuse with
- Evidence ladder: the Established-to-Myth labels for growing claims in articles.
- Lab COA: proves chemistry, not parentage.
The daily length of light versus dark; photoperiod cannabis flowers when nights grow long enough, rather than at a fixed age.Plant variety protection (plant breeders' rights) is an intellectual property right for a new plant variety that is distinct, uniform and stable, typically 20-25 years.A COA (certificate of analysis) is a lab's signed report of what it measured in a specific sample, such as cannabinoids, terpenes, moisture and contaminants, with methods and limits.A chemotype is a plant's chemical phenotype, in cannabis usually its dominant cannabinoid class: THC-dominant (I), mixed (II), CBD-dominant (III), CBG-dominant (IV) or cannabinoid-free (V).A GB-ID is GenetixBay's permanent identifier, such as GB-GEN-0001842-6, for a genetic line, landrace, seed batch, plant, cut, grow, harvest, trial or document, so records never get lost or renamed. The GenetixBay evidence ladder labels every growing claim as Established, Supported, Grower practice, Contested or Myth, according to how strong the evidence is.A renamed cut is a known clone sold or shared under a new name, so one genotype circulates under many labels and lineage records get muddied.Genotyping is reading a plant's DNA at selected markers to identify it, compare it with other plants, check sex or chemotype, or estimate its ancestry. An elite cut is a famous, proven clone-only plant, often held by a few growers and traded rather than sold openly.
