Every claim, with its receipts.

The GenetixBay Knowledge Base is meant to be the most trustworthy place to learn to grow. This is how we write it, check it, correct it, and let others reuse it.

The short version

  • Every factual claim cites a source, and every article shows how strong the evidence is.
  • Our house positions are labelled as expert opinion, with the reasoning shown.
  • Each article shows its review status: draft, or reviewed by a named kind of expert.
  • No sponsored content, no paid placement and no affiliate links in knowledge articles. Ever.
  • Found a mistake? Email hello@genetixbay.com with “Correction” in the subject. We fix it and say so.
  • Reuse is welcome, by people and by AI search engines, under CC BY-SA 4.0 with credit and a link.

Citations

Every factual claim in an article links to its source in a numbered list at the end. We prefer, in this order:

  1. peer-reviewed research, with a DOI or a link to the full text where possible;
  2. university extension services and plant-science departments;
  3. standards bodies and government agencies;
  4. manufacturer data, for equipment specifications;
  5. documented grower practice, clearly labelled as such.

We read the source before citing it, and we cite what it actually says. If a figure can't be confirmed yet, it's cut, or marked “being reviewed” until it is.

How strong is the evidence?

Every article and many individual claims carry one of five labels:

Established

Multiple studies or extension consensus.

Supported

Some research, or strong grower consensus consistent with research.

Grower practice

Widely used, with little formal research.

Contested

Evidence conflicts or is thin on both sides.

Myth

The evidence contradicts the claim.

House positions are expert opinion

On some contested topics, GenetixBay takes a clear stand. These house positions are the considered opinion of our founder, a grower and breeder with decades of experience, checked against the research. They are labelled “House position” wherever they appear, with the reasoning and the evidence, so you can judge them yourself. They are opinion, not settled fact, and we change them when better evidence arrives.

Current examples include: pre-harvest flushing for taste is a myth (only a root-zone salt flush is useful); LEDs don't by themselves create a need for extra calcium and magnesium; hermaphrodites mostly trace back to breeding, not to nature; and flower labelled above about 35% total cannabinoids isn't credible.

Review status

Every article shows one of these at the top:

  • Draft: awaiting expert review. Researched and cited, but not yet signed off by an expert reviewer.
  • Expert reviewed. Checked by an experienced grower acting as our expert reviewer.
  • Agronomist reviewed. Checked by a qualified agronomist or plant scientist.

Every article also shows when it was last updated. Drafts are published because a cited draft is more useful than nothing, but they're labelled so you know. [OWNER: name the expert reviewers, or their qualifications, once you're ready.]

Corrections

If you find a mistake, email hello@genetixbay.com with “Correction” in the subject and the page address. We aim to acknowledge it within 2 business days. If you're right, we fix it, update the article's date and, for anything more than a typo, add a dated correction note at the end of the article saying what changed. We never quietly rewrite a claim to hide an error.

Independence

  • No sponsored content and no paid placement in knowledge articles or in Professor Greenleaf's answers.
  • No affiliate links in knowledge articles.
  • Products and brands are named only when it helps you, never because someone paid.
  • When an article mentions Jardin, it is our own hardware, and we say so.

How GenetixBay does earn money is explained on How we make money.

What the knowledge base isn't

It's about growing plants. It doesn't give medical advice or legal advice, and it never claims cannabis treats, cures or prevents any condition. Laws are summarised only to point you to the official source where you live.

Professor Greenleaf's answers

Greenleaf answers from the knowledge base and cites the articles he used. His answers are generated automatically, so they're marked as his, and answers from the community rank above his once people vote on them. If an answer is wrong, tell us the same way as any correction.

Reuse, licence and AI search

Knowledge-base text is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 (CC BY-SA 4.0). You may copy, quote, translate and adapt it, including commercially, as long as you:

  • credit it, for example: “Article title, GenetixBay Knowledge Base, genetixbay.com, CC BY-SA 4.0”;
  • link to the original article;
  • share adaptations under the same licence.

Search engines and AI assistants are welcome. Our robots.txt allows the major search and AI crawlers to read the knowledge base. We publish llms.txt, llms-full.txt, a Markdown twin of every article and a JSON index to make that easy. When an assistant uses our content in an answer, we ask that it name GenetixBay and link the article, as the licence requires.

The licence covers the text. The GenetixBay and Jardin names, Professor Greenleaf and our artwork aren't covered by it.

Translations

French articles are machine-made drafts until a human translator reviews them, and are marked that way. The English article is the reference version.
