Pressed hash is resin powder consolidated by pressure, and in traditional practice often by warmth and hand-working too. Compression bursts some heads and fuses the resin into a cohesive mass. A pressed mass exposes less surface to air than loose powder, which is one reason traditional hash makers pressed their product for storage and transport.
In practice
Pressed hash is typically darker on the outside than inside, because the surface oxidises. Texture ranges from hard and crumbly (more plant matter, lower resin content) to soft and pliable (high resin content). Traditional sieved hashish was commonly sold pressed. Pressed hash is a solid resin product; rosin is resin squeezed out as an oil. GenetixBay defines the product and gives no pressing settings or steps.
Don't confuse with
- Rosin: oil extracted under heat and pressure, then separated from the residue.
- Kief: the same material before pressing.
- Brick weed: compressed flower, not compressed resin.
