Lab notes #2: what Jardin will look like

First concept renders of Jardin, our autonomous grow system. The full aeroponics kit, a look inside the root chamber, and the clean build we're working toward from a very messy breadboard.

Lab notes #2JardinHardwareConcept renders

The breadboard on our bench is a glorious mess of jumper wires. These renders are where it's heading. They're concept art, not product photos, and details will change as we build. But this is the shape of the thing.

Meet Jardin, the grow system behind GenetixBay.

The Jardin HPA-4 kit: root chamber on a stand, reservoir on a weighing platform, dosing bay, high-pressure pump and accumulator, hub and phone

What you're looking at

  • The root chamber (top) holds four plants in net pots. Inside, nozzles mist the roots every minute or two.
  • The reservoir (bottom) sits on a platform with a load cell in each corner, so Jardin always knows exactly how much it holds, how much the plants drank today, and whether anything is leaking.
  • The dosing bay (left): four pumps and four stock bottles standing on their own scale. Every dose is checked in grams.
  • The pressure side (right): a 100 psi pump, a pressure tank and two valves, one per misting zone. The tank is what lets a small pump fire every nozzle at full pressure instantly.
  • The node on the front of the chamber reads pH, EC and temperatures and runs the pumps. It keeps misting even if Wi-Fi drops.
  • The hub and your phone for checking in and telling Jardin what you see.

Inside the root chamber

Cutaway of the Jardin root chamber: roots hanging in fine mist, with a shallow lifeboat pool on the floor

That shallow pool on the floor isn't a leak. It's the lifeboat. If the misting system ever fails completely, a small backup pump keeps the roots wet from that pool until you fix it. In high-pressure aeroponics, roots can start drying out within minutes, so a backup isn't optional.

Not just aeroponics

The same brain runs deep water culture, and coco or soil with automatic drippers, moisture sensors and pots on scales. Plug in the matching sensors and Jardin works out what's connected.

The close-ups

From mess to this

Next up in the lab: tidying the breadboard into proper wiring with labelled connectors, then the first custom circuit board. We'll post the ugly before photos. You've been warned.
