Shake is the small broken pieces of bud, [sugar leaf](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/sugar-leaf.md) and loose [trichomes](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/trichome.md) that fall off flower when it is handled, packed and moved. It gathers at the bottom of containers and is often sold cheaply.

## In practice

Shake from good flower is good flower in small pieces, but it degrades faster: more surface is exposed to air, so [terpenes](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/terpene.md) evaporate and [cannabinoids](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/cannabinoid.md) oxidise sooner. Commercial "shake" can also include trim and leftovers from many batches, which is a different product. Shake is commonly used for rolling, edibles or infusions. Store shake as you would buds: airtight, cool and dark, and use it sooner.

## Don't confuse with

- **Trim**: leaf cut off during trimming, before or after drying.
