Re-veg (re-vegetation) is reversing flowering in a [photoperiod plant](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/photoperiod.md) by restoring long days, usually 18 h or more of light. Left with some buds and leaves after harvest, the plant gradually stops flowering and produces new vegetative shoots, which can then be cloned or grown on.

## In practice

Breeders and [pheno](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/pheno.md) hunters use re-veg to keep a plant they only identified as a keeper after smoking it. Leave the lower branches with some green leaves and small buds, keep the plant under [24/0](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/24-0.md) or [18/6](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/18-6.md), feed lightly, and wait. Expect 2-6 weeks of odd growth: rounded, single-blade or smooth-edged leaves before normal leaves return. Success varies; old, heavily stripped or very late plants often fail.

Accidental re-veg outdoors happens when a plant that started flowering early in spring sees lengthening days.

## Don't confuse with

- **Monster cropping**: rooting cuttings from a flowering plant; the cuttings re-veg.
- **Cloning before flower**: the easier route; keeping cuts of every candidate avoids needing re-veg.
