Monster cropping means [taking cuttings](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/cloning.md) from a flowering plant, usually in the first few weeks of flower, rooting them and keeping them under long days. The cuttings slowly revert to vegetative growth, and many throw out unusual, bushy growth with lots of branching shoots, which some growers like for a wide canopy.

## In practice

Rooting from flowering tissue is slower than from vegetative cuttings, often 2-4 weeks, and the first new leaves are frequently small, round or single-bladed while the shoot reverts. Success varies by cultivar. Growers use it to rescue a [genotype](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/genotype.md) they forgot to clone before flipping, or to build [mothers](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/mother-plant.md) with many cut sites.

Evidence is anecdotal. Treat the "monster" growth as a side effect of [re-vegging](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/re-veg.md), not a guaranteed yield gain.

## Don't confuse with

- **Re-veg**: reverting a whole plant after harvest; monster cropping uses cuttings.
- **Supercropping**: crushing and bending stems; unrelated despite the name.
