Loud describes flower whose aroma is so strong it fills a room when the jar opens. It is praise for intensity of smell, and often stands in for quality in general.

## In practice

Loudness comes from volatile compounds ([terpenes](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/terpene.md) and minor [sulfur](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/sulfur.md) compounds among them) and from how well those were preserved after harvest. Slow drying in a cool, dark room, a cure that lowers moisture gradually, and airtight, cool storage keep flower loud. Heat, light, open air and [over-drying](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/over-drying.md) make it quiet quickly. Grinding releases far more aroma than smelling an intact bud.

## Don't confuse with

- **Gas**: one specific loud profile (fuel, diesel).
- **Strong**: smell is not potency. A loud jar can test modestly and a quiet one high.
