Fogponics uses ultrasonic transducers ([foggers](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/humidifier.md)) to turn nutrient solution into a cold fog of very fine droplets, typically under about 10 µm, which fills a closed root chamber. In theory, tiny droplets give roots both oxygen and nutrients with almost no water barrier.

## In practice

In practice, fogponics is mostly used for [cloning](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/cloning.md) and small experimental systems. Common problems: transducers heat the solution, salts build up and crust on the discs, units wear out and need regular replacement, and fog alone may deliver [too little water](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/underwatering.md) and nutrients to large flowering plants. Many builds combine fog with a spray or a shallow pool.

Evidence for full-cycle cannabis production in fogponics is limited to grower reports; treat it as experimental.

## Don't confuse with

- **HPA**: pressure-driven mist with larger droplets.
- **Humidifier fog**: the same hardware, used for air humidity, not root feeding.
