Exotic, in cannabis retail, means a fashionable, expensive cultivar, usually a recent [polyhybrid](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/polyhybrid.md) with a dessert, [candy](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/candy-terps.md) or gas profile and striking [looks](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/bag-appeal.md). Despite the word, "exotic" flower rarely has anything to do with foreign origins.

## In practice

A menu might sort flower into "exotics", "premium" and "value". The exotic label is a price tier. Some exotic flower is superb, some is ordinary flower in good packaging. The useful questions are the same as for any jar: who grew it, when it was harvested, how it was dried and [cured](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/curing.md), and whether the lab results are believable.

## Don't confuse with

- **Landrace**: a genuinely regional, farmer-maintained population, often from the places "exotic" seems to imply.
- **Zaza**: near-synonym with stronger street flavour.
- **Rare**: scarce in supply. Exotics are often widely available under one name.
