An edible is any cannabis product meant to be eaten or drunk: baked goods, gummies, chocolates, drinks and capsules among them. [Cannabinoids](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/cannabinoid.md) are added as [decarboxylated](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/decarboxylation.md) extract, [distillate](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/distillate.md), isolate or an infused fat such as butter or oil. Because cannabinoids are taken through the digestive system and metabolised by the liver, the reported onset is slower and the reported duration longer than inhalation, which is a common cause of over-consumption.

## In practice

Regulated edibles are labelled in milligrams per serving and per package rather than %, and many markets cap the dose per serving and package; check local rules. [Label accuracy](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/label-inflation.md) for edibles has been mixed in published testing. Edibles look like ordinary food, so storing them securely away from children and pets matters. GenetixBay gives no recipes, dosing advice or medical claims; effects are reported only.

## Don't confuse with

- **Tincture**: a liquid preparation, usually taken by dropper.
- **Raw cannabis**: uncooked flower is mostly [THCA](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/thca.md), not [THC](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/thc.md).
- **Concentrate**: an ingredient for edibles, not an edible itself.
