Badder (also "batter") is a concentrate texture: thick, opaque and smooth, like cake batter or frosting. It is produced by inducing fine crystallisation of the [cannabinoid](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/cannabinoid.md) acids through agitation and controlled conditions after extraction. The result holds more of its [terpenes](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/terpene.md) in a creamy matrix than brittle forms do. Badder can come from [hydrocarbon extracts](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/solvent-based-extract.md) or from [rosin](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/rosin.md), where it is often called rosin badder or whipped rosin.

## In practice

On a menu, "badder" tells you about texture and, roughly, about processing style; it doesn't tell you potency, starting material or whether solvents were used. For that you need the product type (live or [cured](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/curing.md), rosin or resin) and the [COA](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/coa.md). Badder is generally wetter and looser than budder, though the terms overlap. GenetixBay defines the product only and gives no processing information.

## Don't confuse with

- **Budder**: similar but typically stiffer and smoother.
- **Sauce**: [crystals](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/trichome.md) in a liquid terpene-rich fraction; separated rather than whipped.
- **Shatter**: glassy, non-crystallised.
