Aeroponics is a hydroponic method in which roots are suspended in an enclosed, dark chamber and periodically or continuously sprayed with nutrient solution. Roots sit in air, so oxygen supply is excellent. Low-pressure aeroponics (LPA) uses a standard submersible or inline pump and sprinkler-style heads, producing coarse droplets; [high-pressure aeroponics](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/hpa.md) (HPA) uses a high-pressure pump and fine-mist nozzles.

## In practice

LPA is common in home cloners and some vegetative systems: cuttings root quickly in a box of misted air. For full grows, LPA behaves much like a well-aerated [DWC](https://genetixbay.com/knowledge/glossary/dwc.md) with a spray, and most units keep a pool of solution at the bottom. Keep solution cool, around 18-21 °C (64-70 °F), and use a timer or run continuously depending on the design. A pump failure dries exposed roots far faster than in DWC, so alarms and backup matter.

Research on aeroponic indoor farming highlights excellent root aeration and harvestable root mass, but also the system's sensitivity to failures.

## Don't confuse with

- **HPA**: true fine-mist aeroponics at high pressure, with no standing solution.
- **Fogponics**: ultrasonic fog, even smaller droplets.
